JEAN HARLOW AND PAUL BERN BY THE FIREPLACE... JEAN HARLOW IN COLOR...
JEAN ABOUT PAUL…
July 2, 1932: Jean Harlow to Elza Schallert, "Paul is the first man I've ever met who let me be a friend. God never made anyone as wonderful as Paul. I am frightened because I want to make him happy. I don't want to fail. He deserves happiness more than anyone in the world."
PAUL ABOUT JEAN…
July 3, 1932, Paul Bern to columnist Elza Schallert: "Jean is a lovely, naive little child one minute, and the next she confounds me with her wisdom, her understanding, her honesty. She is the most honest person I have ever known in my life, filled with courage, free of hypocrisy. I adore her."
Here’s Jean’s “Yardstick”
Each of us has her own yardstick and should measure her man by it. If you’re the sort of girl who can live with a handsome face, a pair of trick feet belonging to a dancin’ fool and a million dollars, you’re welcome to the man.
Take him and like him. I couldn’t.
Here’s my “yardstick” for the ideal man:
He must have a sense of humor.
He must be honest, especially in his thoughts.
He must have a sympathetic understanding.
He must have a sense of protectiveness.
He must always be loyal, and he must inspire
in you a sense of dependability.
–Jean Harlow.
